This August will mark 40 years since the Wichita Falls Police Department and the families of the two officers suffered the devastating blow of losing two their own on one day.
Fire ravaged part of downtown Wichita Falls that summer, and Fellows and Rappolee were in their patrol car guarding a building when a wall, weakened by the fire, collapsed and toppled onto the police car, crushing the officers.
Fellows had worked for the department for four and a half years when he died, and Rappolee had just marked two years with the police force.
Eddie was a good friend and I learned of his passing while I was stationed in Gremany.
